It’s time for families to prioritize social responsibility for future generations
The quarantine of 2020 disconnected our communities not only from each other, but from the sources of aid that they relied on, such as thrift stores and food banks (remember that day when the world shut down?)
In June of 2020, we created a virtual free marketplace to find local people who could benefit from the items we already had to donate. Little did we know that WLA would grow weekly by the hundreds, reaching other states and distant countries!
In the following months, we realized that unlike donating to a thrift store, seeing the faces of the families and individuals who we were giving to changes not only their lives, but ours. When we can meet face to face, voice to voice, simply with the hope to make someone's life a little better, our hearts open and we begin to erase the differences that divide us.
And so, the mission to become a nonprofit mobilize our community began!
WLA isn't just another donation center or community resource. It's not just a place to drop off your stuff and move on with your life. Our goal is to make it easy for YOU, your kids, your friends and your neighbors to make a difference in someone's life no matter how busy, broke or broken you are.
Whether you're passing on clothes your kids have outgrown, Marie Kondo-ing your home and decluttering your garage, feeding a family with an Amazon grocery delivery or helping us pick up and deliver items, there is no greater expression of love than a simple selfless act of kindness.
Regardless of status, background, race, color or political opinions... WLA is determined to unite our world and restore the faith, hope and love that we all so desperately need!
Everything we do is a complete overflow of our relationship with Jesus Christ. We believe He is the Son of God and that He came to save us from our sin without any questions or judgement.
Sacrificing His life and reputation for us, even when we didn't deserve it, is the TRUE MEANING OF LOVE. Laying down our own lives (and comforts) for the good of a complete stranger. There is nothing greater. If you're looking for the answer to the darkness in this world, this is it. Love your neighbor as yourself. We are better together!
Born in Bogota, Colombia, to a humble, hard-working, philanthropic family, Mary Nastukov was taught at a young age to live by unshakeable faith and never hesitate to help someone in need. At eight years old, she started her own merchandise business, which put her on the path to discovering her personal contribution to the world.
While acquiring her B.A. in English from the University of Central Florida, she became a freelance writer and helped launch a young professionals magazine in Orlando, FL. Her relationship column, “Sex and the City Beautiful,” birthed her persona, “Dear Miss Mary,” which became her brand many years later. It was then that she fell in love with helping people love each other well. In the following years, she worked as an Event Manager, Advertising Executive and even acquired licensing as a Financial Advisor and a Real Estate agent.
Finally, in 2008, she found her place in church leadership in Jacksonville, FL. Her love for youth and women’s ministry fueled her idea to launch a faith-based teen magazine produced by the teens themselves. She also traveled for six years with some of the country’s most inspirational speakers, pastors, and national recording artists on the Women of Faith Tour. She has had the amazing privilege to work with a TV show called Building a Difference on TBN, help organize events for the Tim Tebow Foundation, and participate in multiple missions, locally and internationally.
Unfortunately, in the last decade, Mary has been through some of the most paralyzing battles in both her individual and married life. Overcoming bankruptcy, divorce, depression, anxiety, addiction, and then the sudden death of her husband in 2022, she is determined to use her own experiences to help bring hope and courage to others. It just so happened that it was in the midst of her battle that the world shut down, and WLA was birthed.
Mary’s hope is not just to share the miracle of her faith, hope, and love for others but to bring the same miracle to others facing impossible battles.
